A handkerchief depicting Gary Cooper, 1950s. Hollywood had a particularly big influence on fashion during this era. Handkerchiefs were perfect-sized mementos of favourite films such as the Western High Noon (1952), for which Cooper won an Academy Award.
Robert Redford takes the lead in the film adaptation of The Great Gatsby, 1974. The classic novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald (1925), on which the film is based, has become synonymous with the decadence of the early 1920s.
